Just a quick reminder that Friday (15th August) is the final Pimms Club of the summer.
For those not aware, this is a monthly event during the off season where we all meet up to drink Britain’s favourite summer tipple in the sun (or at least al fresco) before things inevitably spiral out of control and the hard liquor comes out. Pimms Club has a long standing tradition within the club and they are always memorable…in that no one can ever really remember what happens after 9pm.
The final Pimms Club this year will be hosted by none other than Bilbo Baggins himself, in the shire of Primrose Hill at his humble 7 storey hobbit hole. This will be on 15th August but please await more details as he may not actually be aware that he’s hosting it yet.
The 2014/15 season kicks off Tomorrow at 18:30 in Regent’s Park. Pre-season training will be a mix of fitness, skills and rugby, taking place every Tuesday and Thursday until September at 6.30pm. We will have a team of coaches present, including fitness specialists.
Our summer training location is now between London Zoo and the Gloucester Gate entrance to the park, marked on this link as ‘Summer Training‘
Arrive changed or get changed by the side of the pitch. Bring water! Footwear for the time being is trainers.
Two Crucial Things:
1. Whoever arrives first, claim our space to train and mark it out with cones or anything to hand. Timing is crucial; If you think you can arrive a little earlier to do this on either Tuesday or Thursday, please let me know on 07950 257802.
2. Volunteers needed to collect the two bags of balls and ladders, etc from the Sheephaven and drop them over to the pitch. For early sessions we just need the two big bags, but they are not light to carry. Please let me know if you can help on either Tuesday or Thursday. In an emergency, I believe the Club will reimburse taxi fares.
With work commitments, holidays etc, we cannot expect 100% attendance at every session. Personal fitness is your own responsibility, but these sessions will help. Don’t worry if you’re feeling a bit flabby right now – the early sessions will be ‘accessible to all’. Just don’t leave it until August and think you can reach a level of fitness which will see you through the season – one of the reasons we suffered so many injuries last time around.
Given the verbal interest last season, especially on Finals Day, about club blazers we have sourced a supplier.
By sheer coincidence we were able to buy the previous batch off the peg from Brook Taverner, as modelled above by Matthew But that was a seasonal design that has ended and will not be renewed.
We now have a potential new supplier willing to replicate the blazers already in existence but need to determine interest levels before going any further.
The details of ordering a blazer are:
Cost is £150
Two payments required
50% deposit upon order confirmation
50% balance due around 4 weeks before delivery
Minimum of a total of 10 blazers required for the club to justify placing the opening order
We’ll confirm individually when we have reached the minimum total and require the deposit to be made. This will most likely be done online through our paypal payment system
Wait time of approx 18 weeks between deposit and delivery
Delivery will be to the club, and distribution to individuals from there.
This supplier is proving to be both more cost effective than our off the peg find last year, but also offers the opportunity to split your payments to the club. We are also then able to place orders in batches of 5 after this first bulk purchase.
If you would like to submit your interest then please fill in this form:
Training resumes next week, it’s probably worth reminding you all of some important dates to mark in your diary over the next few weeks:
Pre-Season training starts a week tomorrow, Tuesday 1st July
This then occurs every Tuesday & Thursday through July & August
Pimms Club on Friday 18th July
Club AGM on Tuesday 5th August
Pimms Club on Friday 15th August
Opening fixtures are Saturday 30th August
League games start on Saturday 13th September
We’ll send reminders and further details for each of these as the dates approach but it’s worth marking these down now, especially the weekends regarding early season friendlies and the start of league rugby.
You should be salivating once you’ve read this and giving tour some serious consideration. I have put forward one hell of a set of a package including excursions and stash for you. This is what you’ll be receiving for your £300. I ask anyone to try and find a better value offer.
